  6. Drawing as a means of professional communication 6.1. Communicative features of project graphics

The analysis of the design drawing purpose makes you think about the specifics of its perception through the eyes of a professional and the eyes of the viewer who does not have professional training. The perception of the diverse features of the drawing depends on the level of training of the viewer. A person who understands the code of pictorial information can perceive and master an image, as well as reading a literary text can only be done by a subject who knows the language, the alphabet and the rules for writing and reading font type phrases. These circumstances make us consider the drawing as a means of visual communication, that is, as a means of communication between people of different levels of cultural and vocational training. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account to whom, and with what tasks any graphic representation, every drawing, sketch, drawing is addressed. For this, the communicative purpose of each graphic document should be classified, reflecting the communication of people with a certain stock of cultural preparation. In general, this classification is reduced to three levels.

The first level of graphic communication reflects the communication of a specialist with a specialist. At this level of communication, drawings, sketches, drawings, and diagrams are used, made in conventional, linear graphics with the use of a minimum range of graphic tools and techniques. The perception of this graphic documentation requires a large professional culture, precludes a qualitative assessment of its content by people who are not professionally trained.

The second level of graphic communication reflects the communication of a specialist with a non-specialist. At this level of communication, drawings, sketches, drawings made in the generally intelligible pictorial form of tonal, color graphics are used, where the object is modeled with the maximum approximation to nature. The realistic image of the object in tone, color, line art actively influences the perception of project documentation. A spectator with a low level of graphic culture who has no professional training easily perceives only images that reliably convey the properties of the form and its environment.

The third level of graphic communication reflects the communication of a specialist with the general public, during which the specialist speaks to the viewer in the language of art. At this level of communication, the designer acts as the author of paintings, easel graphics, theatrical scenery and costumes, posters, book and magazine illustrations.
