Dismantling the wall of brickwork

  Dismantling the wall of brickwork

Dismantling of brick walls is a complex engineering process, which is carried out during the demolition of buildings, repair and redevelopment of premises. It is believed that this procedure should be trusted by professionals. However, with the right approach and the observance of security measures, the dismantling of a brick wall can be carried out independently, saving a considerable amount. To perform this task there is no need for special education and the acquisition of expensive equipment. Consider the sequence in which the dismantling of brick buildings, walls and light partitions.

Planning and preparatory work

Before you start dismantling a brick structure, you need to figure out its type. If the wall does not assume the weight of the slab, then it is a wall. It does not have any effect on the strength and reliability of the building. When working with the walls, there is no need to take up fortifications. The situation is somewhat more complicated when it is planned to dismantle the brick walls of the bearing type. Their removal must be coordinated with the authority responsible for the operation of the building. Even with permission, before you start dismantling the brickwork, you need to install powerful struts that will take over the weight of the ceiling plate.

When carrying out redevelopment inside a brick building, you must perform a number of preparatory activities:

  1. Remove from the room all the furniture. If this is not possible, then cover it with a special film.
  2. Take measures to protect window panes. The dismantling of the brickwork is accompanied by the formation of fragments with great destructive power.
  3. Turn off the electricity in the house, apartment or a separate room in which the dismantling of the walls of brick will be held. Disconnect switches and sockets.
  4. Remove the doors, baseboards and trim. Remove wallpaper and plaster. Take out the construction waste.
  5. Cover floors with solid sheet material to protect against falling bricks and cement. Sheet steel, chipboard or plywood must be used.

Before complete demolition of the building, it is not necessary to clean the bricks from the finish. It is enough to take the necessary things out of it and disconnect the building from communications.

Tools and fixtures

It should be remembered that the dismantling of bricks is a very noisy process. You can only spend it at the time specified by law. The exception is work in a private house.

The work will require such equipment, tools and accessories:

  • perforator;
  • Bulgarian;
  • sledgehammer;
  • long crowbar;
  • hammer;
  • pickaxe;
  • nail puller;
  • chisel;
  • hand or electric saw;
  • screwdriver;
  • stepladder or stable table;
  • tight bags for collecting construction waste.

Stone fragments can cut skin, eyes, arms, and head. Proceeding from this, before work it is necessary to dress in a tight canvas suit, wear a helmet, goggles and gloves. Be sure to use a respirator or gauze bandage. To reduce the amount of dust, moisten the walls with plenty of water before operating. To do this, prepare a spray and a large volume of liquid.

Manual disassembly of walls

This method is used in cases where it is necessary to perform the work as accurately as possible, retaining the bricks for further construction. This can only be done manually using a crowbar, sledge hammer, hammer and chisel. However, manual labor can be used only for dismantling partitions whose thickness is no more than one brick. It is impossible to demolish the capital and load-bearing walls with the help of muscular strength, as the enormous weight of the floor slab and the masonry itself puts pressure on them.

Here's how to disassemble a brick wall using hand tools:

  1. Hammer the surface of the object with a hammer. This will reveal the hidden voids of the wall to be dismounted. It is much easier to work in such places, and it is from them that disassembly should begin.
  2. Insert the chisel into the first top seam. Apply a few powerful blows with a sledgehammer. After the crack, continue to move along the top seam.
  3. After the top row of stones is completely separated from the masonry, disassemble it. Carefully remove the bricks and lay them aside so that they do not interfere with further work. If the stones are stuck, they will have to be sacrificed, knocking out a crowbar or sledge hammer.
  4. In the same way, knock out and take out 1-2 stones. Felling large fragments is not worth it, even if you parse the desire, and you want to do it. When falling, bricks may break or crack, losing their value.
  5. Break the bottom row of stones. As a rule, they are embedded in a screed. In order not to destroy it, one should cut a groove along the wall. After that, you can safely remove the bricks.

Stones knocked out of masonry are cleared of residual solution and are folded for further use. They can be used for the construction of a gazebo, garage, house or barbecue.

Mechanical dismantling of walls

With a large amount of work it is advisable to use means of mechanization. This decision is made when the destruction of load-bearing walls or a complete demolition of the building. Before dismantling the brickwork with a thickness of several bricks, it is desirable to assess the degree of deterioration and strength of the mortar. If clay was used, then it would not be difficult to destroy the wall with a household electric tool. If the laying was done with the use of cement mortar, then it will be necessary to use construction equipment. But even in such cases, masonry can be split into small fragments, retaining most of the bricks. To do this, between the rows, vertically and horizontally drilled a lot of holes. They significantly weaken the wall.

After that, the following methods of demolishing the main walls are used:

  1. Perforator Used heavy and powerful equipment with nozzles in the form of chisels and peaks.
  2. Jackhammer. Such equipment is better to rent, because in the household it is not particularly necessary.
  3. Heavy special equipment with attachments. Used bucket, hydraulic hammer and other devices.

It should be remembered that after the demolition of the building remains the foundation. If it is concrete, then heavy equipment is indispensable.
