  Potted plants

Placing potted plants on the windowsill, we all become a little phytodesigners. Lucky with a light hand, who are guided rather by their own intuition than professional knowledge, the house is fragrant, and each flower appears in all its glory. A specialist is not allowed to rely on luck and a light hand, he acts deliberately. Plants are selected not only from a decorative point of view, being, for example, a fan of species with an amazing shape and color of leaves or elegant flowers. It takes into account, first of all, the compliance of the microclimate of the room with the requirements imposed by each type on light, heat and moisture.

We will not go into the details of the cultivation of plants - it is obvious that there are many of their difficulties, you can learn about them from reference books or by consulting a specialist biologist. In the next chapters of the article we will touch on the issue of plant light and humidity, but now our conversation will be about phyto design, or, as it is also called, floral design - these terms are synonymous. Suppose that the problems of lighting, maintaining the humidity and temperature conditions have already been solved. What principles should be followed when placing plants in the interior? There are no strict rules, but there are several recommendations - they will help you avoid the worst mistakes.

First, single or grouped plants must be sized according to size. A small copy will be lost in a spacious room, and a large one, with huge leaves or a spreading crown, will be clearly excessive in a small one. Secondly, with the help of plants you can visually change the volume of the room: high ceilings will appear lower if you hang a basket with hanging stems to them, low ones seem higher if you place a large tall plant with an erect stem indoors. A well-chosen background emphasizes the beauty of each individual and the group as a whole. For bright blooming and decorative foliage compositions, a calm neutral background is necessary. But plants with large dark green leaves stand out clearly even on fairly motley walls.

The plant can be positioned as a stand-alone soliter. In this case, it must be perfectly formed, since it will always be the center of attention, being one of the dominants of the interior. Large-sized specimens (ficus, dracaena, croton, citrus trees, various palm trees, etc.) are designed for perception from a distance, so they are set on the floor or on low stands, and medium and small ones on high podiums. The decorative container in which the soliter is placed is of great importance - its shape and material should not be distorted from the general style of the interior. If this is a regular pot, be sure to install it on the pallet - excess water will accumulate here after watering. If you place a plant in a decorative flowerpots - ceramic, wood, metal, wicker or wire woven, be sure to take care of the water resistance of its interior, increase the drainage layer and water the plant less often. In addition to the already mentioned plants, laurel, monstera, bokarney and creepers - philodendron, cissus Vuan feel well in the center of attention.

Grouping plants is one of the inexhaustible topics for creativity. We will talk about the most popular group compositions today: all kinds of pot groups, mini-rock gardens, mini-greenhouses, vertical compositions, "epiphytic trees", water gardens. Immediately make a reservation that we are not going to talk about winter gardens and greenhouses, since these are separate areas of the dwelling or even individual buildings with their microclimates, designed specifically for growing plants. The topic of our article is plants as part of a residential interior.
