Flowers and plants in the nursery have a beneficial effect on the child. Many indoor plants absorb toxic substances, dust and, most importantly, have phytoncidal properties. Some types of home plants form a huge amount of biologically active compounds that kill bacteria or inhibit their growth and development, as well as help restore the defenses of the child’s body. It is an indisputable fact that the number of pathogenic microorganisms in the air of the children's room is reduced by more than 50% in rooms with phytoncidal plants.

Such plants include: kalanchoe, citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, tangerines), chlorophytum, laurel, spathiphyllum, aloe vera, aspidistra, hibiscus, myrtle, pelargonium, rosemary, eucalyptus. The leaves of these plants contain essential oils that are beneficial for breathing. Citrus essential oils affect E. coli and staphylococcus.

But while some of these plants may have allergic properties. For example, there are cases of allergy to pelargonium (geranium) - a long-known and familiar plant that has been grown in the homes of our grandmothers.

In addition, you need to know that much more often allergies are caused not by the plants themselves, but by mold, which settles in wooden tubs with large philodendrons or in supports for vines wrapped in moist moss. High humidity is good for plants, but often harmful for children.

Pests of indoor plants, various fungi also often cause allergies. Houseplants for the nursery must be clean and healthy!

Fortunately, not everyone has an allergy and not all. Even if the child has an allergy to mandarins, it is not at all necessary that there is an allergy to citrus plants in the room.

Plants for the children's room is chosen with special care. Some widespread ornamental plants, such as dieffenbachia, aglaonema, many types of euphorbia, contain poisonous juice, which causes various types of allergies.

Nightshade has poisonous fruits, alokaziya contains alkaloids and hydrocyanic acid in juice, in oleander all parts of the plant are very poisonous, and the smell of flowers can cause fainting. Sinadenium contains a milky sap - a skin irritant that causes redness and severe swelling of the skin. It is argued that when you hit the juice in the eyes can be blind.

It is reasonable to place in the children's room well-known flowering plants: Decembrist, violet, begonia, fuchsia, balsam. All of them are not poisonous, easy to clean and have an attractive appearance. Millions of children grew up safely in apartments with these flowers. It is better to put on the window just such an unpretentious, long-known plant. Suitable for children: adiantum, asparagus, hibiscus, kalanchoe, coleus, ferns, spathiphyllum, chlorophytum, cissus, citrus and coniferous.

Spiky cacti, plants with small loose leaves and fruits, flowers with a strong odor are not suitable for a children's room.

The child wants to explore everything. A one-year-old child pulls into his mouth all that interested him - it is highly undesirable that these be euphorbia leaves with poisonous juice, red fruits of decorative pepper, or nightshade.

When a baby learns to walk, he relies on everything that comes to his arm. Tall flower stands that can easily tip over are not suitable for a nursery. The curiosity of children is endless, the child tries to reach out to all the interesting things, so the ampelous plants with long stems can also be dangerous - pulling the stems, the kid can drop the pot over himself.

It is worth thinking that a large plant, Monstera, for example, may not do any harm to the child’s health, but it’s elementary to frighten him at night in the dark, casting a “terrible” shadow from a street lamp onto a nursery wall. Kids of kindergarten age have developed imagination and heightened emotionality. During the day, they can see a beautiful plant in their room, and at night a scary dragon with spread legs. In this case, you will not even guess why the child is crying at night.

Older children will be interested in caring for a house plant, they will be watered and sprayed. In order for the interest not to fade quickly, the plant must bloom, often releasing new leaves, growing in an interesting pot. Plant a balsam plant (other names are light, touchy), in a few days it will have roots, then the young plant will start growing and in just 1.5-2 months it will be covered with bright flowers.

Harmful properties of decorative houseplants are often too exaggerated.

Common sense dictates that well-known flower companies, the main suppliers of plants to our stores, will not offer consumers poisonous, extremely dangerous for health indoor plants. They value their reputation and, moreover, legal proceedings are fraught with substantial losses. But sometimes people bring unfamiliar plants from their trips and frivolously plant them in their homes. Be especially careful with such gifts of nature!

Many houseplants, euphorbia, ficus, dieffenbachia, secrete poisonous juice, which can cause poisoning in a child. But this juice usually immediately causes irritation of mucous membranes, tearing, burning. It also has a bitter taste and an unpleasant smell. Therefore a child will not swallow much poison.

But you will have to wash your eyes and nose of your crying baby for a long time to relieve irritation from the sap of plants, and then calm it down even longer. And this is only because he touched the leaves, and then rubbed his face with a pen!

Plants are sometimes treated with insecticides, in the soil bought in the shops of potted flowers there are capsules with hormones or fertilizers. These substances in any case should not fall from the nursery.

Responsible for the choice of plants for the children's room, as, indeed, for the whole apartment, where children live!
