The system of green areas of the city is an integral component of the urban planning system and one of the most important objects of urban planning. The system of green areas is focused on the following functions:

• organization of sports and recreation of the population;

• improving the sanitary and hygienic state of the urban environment;

• aesthetic improvement of the spatial environment of the city.

The planning organization of green areas depends on the size and layout of the city, on the local natural and climatic conditions . The share of green areas for various purposes within the city development (level of greening of the development area) must be at least 40%, and within the territory of the residential area at least 25% (including the total area of the greened territory of the microdistrict).

One of the main tasks of urban planning and landscape architecture is the formation of a continuous and integrated system of green areas, including the above elements (Fig. 156-159).
