Plant reproduction

  Plant reproduction

There are several ways, the most popular of which is reproduction by apical or stem cuttings. In this way, one can propagate begonia (but not tuberous), coleus, cacti, geranium (geranium), ficus and many other plants.
  Plant reproduction
Cuttings are cut from a healthy plant just below the leaf node. The cut Branch must be fresh. They are rooted in water or in the ground with a high content of sand, there are special mixtures for cuttings. After rooting, they are planted in the ground and looked after, as always. The cacti cuttings are dried until the cut is prolonged and the edges begin to curl inward. After planting, cacti are not watered, but only sprayed.
Another method is reproduction by leaf cuttings.
This method is suitable for Uzumbar violet (Saintpaulia), spray begonias, and many succulents. Leaf cuttings are not cut, and break off, leaving no part of the cuttings on the stem, because it can cause rot. If the leaf is without a cutting, you can simply put it on dry sand or earth. After some time, a small plant will start to develop from the base of the leaf.
Some plants, such as chlorophytum, saberjack or epicemia, form at the ends of flowering shoots or on the edges of adult leaves (calanchus) daughter plants. If they have roots, the cuttings are separated and planted in the soil as an independent plant. If there are no roots, then it is rooted, as mentioned above, and separated from the parent plant, only after rooting.

Bromeliads or bulbous species, for example, sansiveriya, form at the base of the stem daughter plants or bulbous children, which can be separated from the parent plant almost as an adult. It is necessary that they come off quite easily, otherwise you can cause serious damage. Shoots tend to separate with a large number of their own roots. If a wound was formed, it should be powdered with pounded coal and only then the plant should be planted.

Ampel plants such as ivy or tradescantia can be propagated by layering. A few lashes are pressed to the ground by another pot with hairpins or pieces of wire and, as the soil dries, they are watered. For faster rooting, you can make a transverse incision on the part of the plant, pressed into the ground. When the shoots take root and grow, they can be cut off.

Reproduction by air shoots. This method can propagate the tree forms of ficuses, begonias and other plants with a thick stem. An incision is made on it, which should not reach the middle, and a small chip is inserted so that it does not close. A piece of polyethylene is tied with wire under the incision so that its upper part covers the incision site. In the "bag", put wet sphagnum (moss) and wire secure the polyethylene over the cut.
When the roots begin to fill this bag, it will be possible to unfold it, cut it off from the branches just below the notch and plant it. When planting be careful.

Reproduction by seeds. This method is suitable for asparagus, palm trees, passionflower, nightshade ... Land for sowing must be sterilized. Before sowing the ground is moistened. If the seeds are very small, then they are evenly distributed over the soil surface and not sprinkled. If the seeds are large (like coffee), then they should be sprinkled with a layer of soil of 0.5-1.5 cm, in some cases up to 3 cm. After sowing, the pot is covered with glass or polyethylene. After germination, the seeds briefly open up to air, but the soil should not dry out. When the seedlings are old enough, they can be planted.
