7.2 The role of graphics in volumetric modeling

Layout is the leading form of project search. The essence of this design is to work on mock-ups, in the process of manufacturing of which from cardboard, plastic, paper, plaster, wood, metal and paper foil a project proposal is created for the future object. The work is carried out consistently - from the usual sketch layouts to the refined and verified demonstration models. The process of volumetric modeling is not complete without the help of graphics, which plays the role of an auxiliary modeling tool. The important role played by the graphics and in the process of drawing patterns, from which then made the details of each layout. The quality of manufacturing parts of a model depends on the ability to think in general terms, on mastering the skill of projection drawing. The highest mastery of paper and cardboard prototyping is the ability to rationally design the layout of the layout. The best layouts are assembled from a solid pattern, which is transformed into a coherent plastic form of the paper model by skillful divisions, cuts and folds. To compose such a holistic cut, it is necessary to develop the ability of its exact graphic image on a sheet of paper.

In the design process using the techniques of volumetric modeling should:

- develop in parallel the methods of graphic and volumetric modeling, since their comparison, simultaneous use contribute to the development of imagination, memory, fantasy;

- in mastering the methods of volumetric modeling, to use graphic sketching as a means of improving the composition of the volume-spatial model;

- remember that a good layout can be obtained only if there are drawings of all its parts and elements.

Skillful use of volumetric modeling techniques for designing design drawings also depends on the culture of understanding specific tasks and possibilities of graphics and prototyping, and gives the freedom to choose any means to express author's ideas in design design.
