Consider the requirements that apply to this issue. It should also be clarified that these requirements relate not only to the layout of the lamps, but also to their design, as well as design features.

  Ceiling lighting options

During electrical work, you should consider the following requirements:

  1. Light should be evenly distributed over the entire area.
  2. All lamps (or each specific group) must have the same power, light spectrum and illumination intensity. Otherwise there will be no harmony and the interior will noticeably deteriorate.
  3. Lamps must be economical, bright and at the same time durable. The leaders in this case are LED lamps.
  4. If the ceiling lighting is hidden, the body of the lamps should be hidden in a special ledge.
  5. The design of the ceiling (or other products) should be combined with furniture and wall decoration.
  6. Light bulbs should not blind the eyes. To create a soft "flood" backlight, point the lamp up. To create a bright light the lamp must look down.
  7. All wires must be hidden. When flush mounting wiring route hides under the wall trim. With open wiring, you need to hide it in special cable channels (most often this option is used when installing electrical wiring in a wooden house and garage).

Most popular lamps

Most often for lighting the ceiling in the house and apartment are used:

  • chandeliers;
  • Spotlights;
  • directional light lamps;
  • LED and neon tapes.

Consider the features of the use of each option.

Chandeliers are a classic way of lighting not only the ceiling, but also the whole room. There are no special requirements for them, the only thing is weight. This is due to the fact that when connecting a chandelier, some types of ceilings can not withstand the load and collapse (for example, plasterboard). The luminous flux of these products is quite diffuse and bright, so in most cases only one chandelier is enough for the whole room. The advantage of these devices lies in their versatility - you can easily make a two-level, flat ceiling lighting and even an inclined (if you use a pendant lamp on a chain)

Spotlights belong to the modern version of the backlight. They are external and built-in type. The first option better fills the surface with light. The products have many advantages, the main of which are simple installation and attractive appearance. The disadvantage is that some light sources can damage the surface when heated. Such a problem often occurs with suspended ceilings.

Lamps of a directional light can illuminate a certain zone, since their luminous flux is not diffuse, but concentrated in one area. Most often, such products are used to visually change the area of the room. In addition, directional lamp can be used to highlight certain areas of the room itself, for example, the working area of the kitchen.

  Ceiling lighting options

LED and neon ribbons are well proven when installing hidden ceiling lighting. Products are placed inside the prepared eaves and act as a decorative light for the perimeter of the room. Today, LED strips are used in the kitchen, bedroom, hallway and living room. Bathroom due to high humidity is not suitable for these products.

  Ceiling lighting options

You can also illuminate the surface with the ceiling lamps, but they are rarely used. This is due to the fact that the luminous flux of products has a small radius of dispersion, and dimensions take up quite a lot of space.

Backlight options

To date, there are many options for lighting the ceiling with your own hands. The main factor by which a suitable option is determined is the design feature of the surface. Recently used concrete, wood, suspended ceilings and suspended ceilings.

Suspension

It is a plasterboard construction, mounted on a frame made of profiles. For ceiling lighting of drywall is most often used to install spotlights. Products can be installed in a spiral, along the contour and in a row (it all depends on the room). Lighting should be projected during repair, at the stage of creating a plasterboard frame, since At this time it is necessary to take care of laying the wire to the installation site of all enclosures.

Also for this option can be used fixing chandeliers, the main thing is just to choose the right way to fix products. If the body is not heavy, it can be fixed to the concrete ceiling using a special hook dowel or a butterfly dowel. For heavier chandeliers, it is necessary to provide an anchorage. LED strips are used in the event that there is a special eaves for hidden lighting. In this case, the tape with the power supply fit into it entirely around the perimeter.

Tensioner

With lighting suspended ceilings things are much more complicated. This is due to the fact that PVC tape, which is actually tensioned, has low mechanical strength and heat resistance. In other words, it is impossible to attach lamps to the film, since under this weight, it immediately breaks. Even when creating a special mount, you need to take care that the lamp does not burn the film. Such a problem may occur when using incandescent bulbs and halogen caps.

In this case, spotlights proved to be the most successful, since they are attached to specially prepared seats, and the LEDs themselves practically do not generate heat. It is best to use the products of the outer type in this case, since they have a rendered light source. If you already installed a hook under the chandelier, you can make the ceiling lighting with the help of this lamp. All that you will need is to cut a hole for wires in the film during repair, connect them to the chandelier and hide it under the decorative cover that is provided in the kit.

When using LED tape, you can make a hidden lighting stretch ceiling. In this case, it would still be necessary to create a tape cornice just below the level of the film. Material for the design is chosen to your taste, but a simpler option is polyurethane cornice. LED tape has proven itself to illuminate multi-level ceilings, especially when combined with other types of luminaires, for example, with spotlights.

Hinged lamps are recommended to be installed on the walls, directing the light flux upwards.

Backlight example

We draw your attention to the fact that the lighting of the stretch ceiling has one feature. If the film is glossy, then all the light bulbs will be reflected on its surface and, as you understand, their number will visually double. Sometimes this consequence spoils the interior of the room. Also, the reflection affects the interior if the chandelier is dirty (this is immediately displayed) or if the LED strip is laid out crookedly.

Concrete / wooden

Lighting a wooden ceiling has no special requirements, as is the case with concrete. Of course, a chandelier, like a directional lamp, in this case will feel confident, because the anchor (or dowel) will reliably "sit" in the ceiling. Stylish chandeliers are well suited for lighting the ceiling of wooden beams or clapboard.

  Ceiling lighting options

As for the spotlights, then they are inappropriate to apply, because much more complicated installation work in the ceiling of wood.

  Ceiling lighting options

The LED strip can be used, but the installation process is similar to the previous one - you need to think in advance and make a special cornice in order to do without a chandelier. In a wooden house in the country, you can even use wall lights, pointing upward, which will make a cozy atmosphere in the room.

Interesting ideas

Finally, I would like to provide some interesting ideas on the installation of lighting in each of the rooms.

Original ideas for a modern home and apartment

Corridor

Very often the corridor in the apartment is an inconvenient room: narrow and elongated, or small, in which there is no place to put a closet. In this case, the situation can be visually corrected with the help of design techniques. To illuminate the ceiling in a narrow long corridor, you can install several bright spotlights directed strictly downwards along the entire path, which will visually shorten the room,

  Ceiling lighting options

If, on the contrary, it is necessary to slightly increase the volume of the room, the products should be directed upwards, as shown in the picture.

Kitchen

We covered the lighting in the kitchen in detail in the corresponding article. As for the ceiling, it should be noted that in this case it is best to use several groups of spotlights and LED strip. The latter will increase the free space and create a creative interior.

  Ceiling lighting options

Bedroom

Anything can be used to illuminate the ceiling in the bedroom: from sconces to floor lamps. If the bedroom is small with a low ceiling - direct the lamps upwards, illuminating the room from all sides. Such an idea will allow, as you understand, to increase the volume of the bedroom.

  Ceiling lighting options

Spacious bedroom can be reduced by using lamps that are directed strictly down the wall. In this case, the ceiling will be darkened and, therefore, omitted.

Living room

Very often with the help of ceiling lighting in the living room create a "highlight" of the interior. For this purpose, LED strips and spotlights, arranged in several rows.

  Ceiling lighting options

Also in the hallway, you can use designer chandeliers, hinged lamps and sconces directed upwards. To illuminate the living room in high-tech style, you can make the “starry sky” light, as shown in the photo above.

Bathroom

  Ceiling lighting options

The only thing I would like to note is to make sure that there is a bright light in the bathroom, which will not contribute to casting the shadow from objects, otherwise the process of shaving, bathing and applying makeup will be significantly complicated. Bright lighting in the bathroom can be achieved using special fluorescent lamps in a waterproof housing.
