An essential element of the interior was the windows, closed with carved lattices from thin alabaster or from wood. Barred windows created a subtle light effect in the rooms. The window openings themselves, single or double, in most cases, were covered with arches and were located mainly in the upper part of the walls. For processing the walls used the motif of a very flat arch. The surfaces of the walls in the lower part, solved as a panel, were covered with fine ornamentation.
The ornament, used by the Arabs and usually referred to as arabesques, consisted of decorative motifs intertwining in the form of a grid, geometric and stylized vegetative character, with the addition of inscriptions, various canonized handwritings. Images of a person were forbidden by the Muslim religion.
The Muslim architecture used the following decorative materials: knock, alabaster, carved wood, shaped brick, marble, ashlar, glazed tiles, faience, glass mosaic, marble mosaic, painting, papier-mâché, inlay of chain wood and ivory.
Great perfection reach products from carved wood. Valuable breeds were introduced into processing, a type-setting tree was used. Inlaid not only pieces of wood, but ivory.
The furniture was not numerous. The main decoration in the premises was deep wooden sofas, sofas, ottomans, carpets, fabrics and soft cushions, low tables and tables, sometimes in terms of a polygon - hexagon, octahedron. Wooden legs, backs, and elbows were processed using various geometrical ornamental motifs typical of Arabs, among which the most prominent place was occupied by a pointed arched arch. Among other types of furniture were chests, shelves, screens. The role of cabinets was performed by wall niches with doors.
In the furniture of high quality, inlay was used, in particular, with the introduction of ivory, mother of pearl, with bright colors of the ornamented parts.
In the decoration of rooms played an important role carpets with a small complex ornament.
Essential in the decoration of residential houses were dishes - various forms of jugs, bowls and other products made of metal with chasing or of ceramics, earthenware with painting.
