Briton Gavin Munro invented an unusual method of creating wooden furniture, instead of processing the finished wood, it forms furniture “profitably”.
After planting young trees, their branches and trunks are mechanically bent, giving the tree the desired shape, which the final product should have. The branches are fastened together so that the finished product does not have any additional fasteners. After that, the tree is left to grow.
The process of producing "living" furniture takes from 4 to 8 years, depending on the type of wood. As a result, a product, such as a chair, will be made solely due to the formation of the growth of wood and will not have any fastening elements, either nails or keyed joints, all creation will be made of solid wood of one tree.
Now on a furniture farm in Devonshire about 400 pieces of furniture are grown. The first batch of "live" chairs is expected by mid-2017.
