  5.3. Reconstruction examples

Until 1965, the “first generation” houses, mainly the “five-story” houses, were massively built in the country. The deadlines for the overhaul of these buildings have already reached the maximum permissible. A number of design organizations have long developed options for their reconstruction (Fig. 5.6.).

Many foresee a policy aimed at their demolition, since both the moral and physical deterioration of these buildings does not allow them to be reconstructed. However, there are still many five-story buildings built of brick in the country. These buildings are amenable to active reconstruction by the homeowners themselves. Some of the apartments on the floor can be connected, forming large, comfortable apartments with two bathrooms. These houses can add additional rooms from the courtyards, hang loggias and balconies. In a number of houses, in the process of reconstruction, attic, elevator and refuse chute are built on. A number of apartments are combined vertically, creating a two-level living space.

Earlier, the two-apartment sections with a large number of rooms were tried to be divided into three or four apartments, but now, in the new economic conditions, apartments are enlarged up to the organization on the floor of one apartment (Fig.5. 7).
