Definition: the street-road network of the city is formed as a complete system, in conjunction with the network of highways in the area of settlement. The structure of the network is determined by the overall planning structure and size of the city, the interposition of its parts (Fig. 183).
Foot traffic
The system of pedestrian communications in conjunction with the transport infrastructure is a single communication, transport and pedestrian system of the city.
The layout of the urban environment on the principle of pedestrian accessibility implies the formation of a network of main streets with public transport routes so that all residential areas and the entire population are within walking distance from the stops of the route network (Fig. 197).
The distance from the most distant residential development point to the main street should not exceed 500 m in the central and middle zones of the city (multi-storey building zones) and 750 m - on the periphery of the city and in low-rise building areas.
